The Treasurer has announced that the temporary relief granted to companies in relation to signing documents electronically and holding general meetings using technology will be extended until 21 March 2021.

Earlier this year, the Corporations (Coronavirus Economic Response) Determination (No. 1) 2020 was issued to amend the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) to address the difficulties some company officeholders were experiencing as a result of the Coronavirus physical distancing requirements and border closures.

The determination was originally scheduled to expire on 5 November 2020. The extension ensures certainty for companies and officeholders that are continuing to rely on virtual meetings and other technology due to the ongoing effects of the pandemic.
