The 2012 National Aged Care Census and Survey

The National Institute of Labour Studies (NILS) at Flinders University has been commissioned by the Department of Health and Ageing to conduct its third National Aged Care Workforce Census and Survey.  Similar Census and Surveys were conducted in 2003 and 2007.  The third Census and Survey will begin in February, 2012.

The National Aged Care Workforce Census and Survey involves all aged care facilities and community aged care services.  Its aim is to build on the evidence already gathered about the aged care workforce which will provide critical information about the people who work in aged care. From this information, a workforce profile of the aged care sector will be constructed.  It is hoped that this will enable better strategic planning by the Australian Government and the aged care sector to ensure it has the workforce it needs to provide quality care to older Australians.

Similar research processes were undertaken in 2003 and 2007 and provided useful information. The report from the last 2007 Census and Survey is available by clicking here.
