The Residential  Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2009 will come into force from 1 July 2009.  The new Act amalgamates the Residential Tenancies Act 1994 and the Residential Services (Accommodation) Act 2002 and will continue to be regulated by the Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA).

The new Act contains a number of changes to the current legislation including encompassing residents living in rental situations in Retirement Villages, an area which falls outside the scope of the current legislation.

Landlords and village operators should ensure they are aware of their new obligations and that updated versions of forms and agreements are used from 1 July 2009.
